Peripheral Arterial Testing

Peripheral arterial testing is performed in patients with suspected disease of the arteries to the lower limbs. Leg discomfort with walking or other symptoms and signs suggestive of peripheral arterial disease. There are no specific pre-test recommendations. The test is performed for the following indications.

  1. Leg pain with walking.
  2. Abnormal foot pulses.
  3. Age over 70 years, where PAD is more common.
  4. Lower limb ulceration.
  5. Diabetics aged 50-69 years, where PAD is more common.
  6. Smokers aged 50-69 years, where PAD is more common.
  7. Erectile dysfunction.
  8. Previous PAD surgery or interventional procedure.
